babs used to own the bemelman's bar at the carlyle. i used to love dropping in and listening to her do all the chestnuts the right way. for reasons that i have never learned, the carlyle threw her out some years back. the upper east side's loss. midtown's gain.

i know of no men who have this cabaret routine down as well as these women.

other than perhaps tony bennett.
